Human Life and Respect

Quelle suprise , .
"This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others. It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect."
Obviously, considering American foreign policy and its support of it's "friends", the moral boundary concerning the taking of innocent human life only applies to Americans and, due to the related political influences within America, the Israelis.

And the world looks on and watches as they sow the seed for our society's destruction.

How can we be so shortsighted, so blinded, so selfish and stupid?

Respect.

Respect?

Look how the apparent worth of the lives of different peoples varies so immensely.

Already the number of dead in Israel since the Israeli soldiers were taken is inching towards the number killed in the 7th July London bomb attacks, but as for the "other side" - nearly 20 times the number of Lebanese civilians have been killed as Israeli civilians (more than 67 yesterday). And let's not forget Gaza.

With all this going on, let's not forget Iraq either, where many more people are dieing due to our shortsightedness. As detailed by Syney Blumenthal on Tuesday, President Bush wasn't even familiar with the terms Sunnis and Shi'ites as recently as January 2003 whilst discussing post-Saddam Iraq with 3 prominent Iraqi dissidents.

You can imagine. "Sunni and Shia" - didn't they sing "I Got Yu Babe"?

And let's not forget Blair, who would have had us believe that he was reigning in the US President as opposed to bolstering his plans.

And talking of Blair, let's not forget Africa...

This is were both Bush and Blair utterly befuddle everyone - when they couch their policies in terms of morality.

As you say, wholesale torture and butchery is fine, but stemcell research is not?

Perhaps this says more about the right-wing, fundamnentalist section of the US electorate that Bush is reliant upon. They are obviously happy to support a man who will consent to murdering Americas youth only if they're in uniform. Perhaps the best way to avoid being KIA in Iraq is by dressing up as an embryo?

Interesting division of moral viewpoints within one person - almost schizophrenic...

Utterly.

And Blair is equally complicated. Its bad enough when the misguided convictions of political leaders are strongly guided by a so-called god, but put messianic thoughts into someone in power and we're all in trouble.

It's like the lunatics leading the workings of the asylum (to sound uncomfortably like Richard Littlejohn!)

I sometimes think its a shame that non-believers of the supernatural can't just settle a new off-world colony somewhere. Only trouble is that those hooked on their myths would probably invade to share their gods with the heathen...

But I digress. You're spot on that US (and to an extent UK) politics is about holding on to power and influence at any possible cost. No matter which countries are ruined, no matter how many people die. No wonder Israel's given the green light to do as it pleases - can't lose those Judao-Christian votes.

Don't encourage me.

I'd got a whole sequel lined up in my head yesterday, more today... just not had the time to write...

... anyway, any regular reader of VSX will probably be intelligent enough to know all about what's going on, however sometimes you just can't bottle it up.

Just wish I had the time to be a "proper" political blogger. Then again, political bloggers just end up shouting at those who disagree...
